Australia votes: our favourite takeaways revealed Pizzerias leading the vote as Australia’s favourite eateries

Australia is halfway through voting in the nation’s premier takeaway awards, which attracts tens of thousands of votes from the public every year for 5500-plus restaurants. With four weeks to go before the winning restaurants are announced in each state, award organiser Menulog is giving the country a sneak peak of the current leaders (without revealing with winners!). In a departure from last year’s votes, Italian pizzerias are pushing their way into the spotlight, so far representing five out of the top ten favourite restaurants.

The Tasty Takeaway Awards, now in its fifth year, is a people’s choice award recognising takeaway establishments that provide the best-tasting food, best value, and best customer service. Votes from the public will be totalled to announce one national winner, in addition to five state winners in NSW/ACT, VIC, QLD, SA and WA.

Menulog’s current Top Ten leader board, to date, reveals Australia’s favourite eateries in the country, by state:

takeawayWestern Australia
The current leader in the Tasty Takeaway Awards nationally is an Indian restaurant from WA. The state boasts another top ten eatery, a pizzeria, currently in fourth place. The Italian-style favourite may creep up higher up the leader board in coming weeks if last year’s winner – Hot Rock Pizza in Bassendean – is anything to go by.

New South Wales/ACT
While Indian was the winning cuisine in NSW last year – with Surry Hills’ Maya Da Dhaba receiving the highest number of votes in NSW and ACT – it seems pizza may reign supreme in 2015. NSW currently has two restaurants in the top ten, in second and seventh place respectively, both specialising in pizza.

Victoria
Victoria is the state recognised for its great food, so it comes as no surprise that it places five times in the top ten with four weeks of voting to go. Burger establishments were the winning takeaway restaurant choice for Victorians last year – Babu Burgers With Balls in Windsor was voted the Victorian winner by the public in 2014. The result may be replicated this year as Victorian burger restaurants are third and fifth on the national leader board so far. Victoria also places sixth with a pizzeria, ninth with Malaysian, and tenth with Thai.

Queensland
Votes from the Sunshine State are putting a pizzeria on the leader board at number eight. This is a far cry from Queensland’s 2014 choice, when Lummy’s Chinese Restaurant in Mermaid Waters was chosen as the state winner.

Votes for the Tasty Takeaway Award close 30 June 2015. To vote, log on to Menulog.com.au and select your favourite restaurant. You will be automatically entered into a prize draw to win $12,000 cash, plus ten prizes of $300 in vouchers for use on the website.

The Tasty Takeaway Awards National Winner 2015 will receive one delivery scooter, $7000 cash and free marketing promotion to the value of $30,000 from Menulog.com.au. Each Tasty Takeaway Awards State Winner will also win a delivery scooter, plus free marketing promotion to the value of $5,000.
