A Bird’s Eye View of Melbourne

The first thing a first-time visitor to Melbourne should do is go to the 88th floor of the Eureka Tower and view the city from the Eureka Skydeck.

Located on the southern banks of the Yarra river in the Melbourne CBD, Eureka offers spectacular 360 degree, floor-to-ceiling views of the city all the way down to Port Phillip Bay. On a clear day, you can see to the Dandenong ranges. Visit at night to see Melbourne in lights.

There’s also an observation deck. The Edge is a glass cube which projects three metres out from the building – with you in it – suspended almost 300 metres above the ground. They like to make it sound scary, but I think you can handle it.

The nice thing about the Skydeck is that there’s no rush. The Edge is the only timed experience. Otherwise, you can linger up there for a while and enjoy a coffee or ice cream from the snack bar.
