Montsalvat

Australia

Melbourne is full of hidden treasures and Montsalvat is one of them.

Justus Jörgensen established Montsalvat in 1934 as an artist’s community on 12 acres of land. Today it remains home to a painters, sculptors, jewelry makers, and even a guitar maker.  Some of the artists offer classes and workshops. Montsalvat also has a French provincial restaurant called the Meeting Pool, but be sure to make reservations.

The best experience at Montsalvat is just roaming the grounds and exploring the various buildings. The Great Hall is particular impressive with its many nooks and crannies and many interesting architectural details. Another picturesque building is the chapel. As you might imagine, Montsalvat is a popular location for film and photography shoots as well as corporate functions and weddings.
