Sunday Gratitudes
A few things that are making me happy this week and that I’m grateful for:
A Working Web
Something went awry earlier this week with the web. Although I never lost my internet connection and could communicate with friends and colleagues over Skype, none of my browsers would load several websites. It was weird and random. Twitter would load, but not Facebook; Tumblr would load, but not WordPress, and so it went. I ran anti-virus, spyware, and malware software and turned up clean and I was also safe from the DNS changer virus that the FBI warned about. All my software was up to date and I also checked my modem and router, which appeared to be in good shape. And so I went to read a book. A few days later, as mysteriously as the problem had appeared, it vanished. All is well now.
Cleaning Out the Clutter
As I prepare to head back to Australia, I’ve been going through my personals and deciding what to keep, what to take, what stays, and what to part with altogether. I’m always feel very satisfied and lighter after throwing away or donating lots of stuff.
My Job
Sometimes my job is tough and exhausting and I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing or like I can’t get anything right. At the end of the day, I really enjoy my job and I’m grateful for my great bosses and the opportunities they have presented me. I’ve learned heaps and a day rarely passes at work where I don’t acquire or improve a skill, discover a new or better way to approach a situation, or have a change in perspective.
During our week in Orlando, my father popped in to feed my cat and change her littler box, but she was mainly home alone. She was clearly excited to have my mother and I back and has been especially loving, playful, and chatty this week. Meow, meow, meow. I sadden when I think about leaving her behind, but I think I’m making the right decision. She’s more than 10 years old and the long journey plus the quarantine and a new home with a large young dog would be too stressful for her. She’ll stay here in the home she’s always known with my mom.
Having Something to Look Forward To
Now that I’m just six weeks away from returning to Australia, I am super excited!
About the featured image: “This illustrates in 3-D the actual domains and connections of the world wide web. Colors have been added to represent .edu, .gov, .com, etc. domains. I’ve always seen the web as bubbles – some large, some small – and vectors – thick or thin. This is the best graphic device I’ve seen to show that connectivity.” -George Laughead
