Sunday Gratitudes

AFL

A few things that are making me happy this week and that I’m grateful for:

Fantastic Footy

I’ve mentioned before (many times) how much I like footy. It was a terrific weekend for it. Melbourne beat Essendon 58-52, the Brisbane Lions beat ladder leader West Coast Eagles 102-100, and Port Adelaide hammered Carlton 99-45. I’ve got nothing against Essendon, Brisbane, or Carlton. It’s just nice to see the underdog come out on top sometimes. West Coast and Essendon are still at the top of the premiership ladder and Melbourne dragged itself off the bottom of it. But somebody has to be at the bottom of the ladder and that’s the Gold Coast Suns. Captain and one-man band Gary Ablett Jr. racked up 53 possessions equaling the AFL’s all-time record, but it was no consolation for the 97-point thrashing Collingwood gave the Suns for its seventh straight win.

Game of Thrones

This is not a great show, but you can do worse. I’ve finally caught up on two seasons of Game of Thrones and it turns out I don’t really like it all that much. It has beautiful cinematography and stellar acting, but that hasn’t been enough to carry the show for me. With the exceptions of Arya, Tyrion, and Joffrey whom I am wishing a slow and painful death upon, I don’t care about the characters and what happens to them in this sadistic, boyish wet dream of a medieval fantasy. But at least I gave it a chance and now I know what the heck everyone is talking about.

No More Tim Tams

It doesn’t seem like a good thing to run out of Tim Tams, but you can only eat so many of these delicious chocolate cookies before you have to start eating real food again. I’m amazed they lasted nearly three weeks.

Productivity

As Scott Hanselman says, “It’s not what you read; it’s what you ignore.” I spent some time this weekend auditing my information sources, cleaning out my email inbox and updating the filters, and eliminating some feeds off my Google Reader. It feels good to reduce virtual clutter and improve my workflow.

My New Tumblr

Tumblr is a micro-blogging platform best suited for short-form content. In keeping with that spirit, this blog’s relative over there features mostly images, short posts, and reblogs. Check it out at http://stumbledownunder.tumblr.com/. Clever name, eh?

Les Miserables

The new trailer for Les Miserables was released this week. I’m so excited! It comes out this Christmas.

What’s making you happy this week?
