Or maybe it was the other way around. Well, something like that! Both cities appear to offer unique delights and I look forward to visiting Sydney. I think that people often focus only on the main tourist attractions in cities like Sydney (and London), so don’t have the time/inclination to explore everything else they have to offer. Sydney reminds me a lot of San Francisco, lots of small areas with their own vibe and a laid back attitude.
I would highly recommend a visit!
I have been to Melbourne a couple of times but not stayed for long so it’s hard to compare…but it also seems like a great place to live.

The comparisons between Sydney and Melbourne are made by residents of those cities. People, both American and Australian, often ask me about the differences between the two countries, which I’ve written about at http://stumbledownunder.com/2012/05/05/more-little-things/. I think it’s out of curiosity mostly and perhaps a certain sense of pride.

I’m sure they have changed a lot. If ask about them way back then all I would have to say they are both different and a like in many ways. To me you have to take them as they are. Of coarse each person has there own personal likes and dislikes. I found this happening with us Yanks while living in Sydney always comparing the states and Australia. One of the big comparisions was American football, Rugby, Aussie rules etc. You just can appriciate anyone of them unless you take them as they are. You lose a lot by comparing them and trying to decide which is better…
