It’s always nice to be recognized and community blogger awards are an excellent way to discover and share other great blogs. Per the rules, it’s now my turn to award 15 blogs.
This award couldn’t have come at a better time. Don’t let me speak for the whole of America, but before I met Theo, all I knew about Australia were sexy accents, a few celebrities, and that some of the world’s deadliest creature reside there. Like any self-respecting nerd, reading is important to me and, like many geeks, I look to the blogosphere for fresh content on topics I’m interested in: the arts, technology, social justice, contemporary Paganism. Here are 15 terrific blogs from folks down under.
ProBlogger is Darren Rowse’s excellent site dedicated to promoting blogging and helping others improve their blogging skills. Anyone who blogs should follow ProBlogger whether you’re interested in monetizing or not.
For more blogging inspiration and writing tips, I enjoy Marya’s blog writing happiness.
News with Nipples is one of my favorite blogs. Sydney journalist Kim Powell takes a look at Australian news through a feminist lens.
Zero at the Bone is an excellent feminist blog from a Sydney writer Chally Kacelnik. She’s already got the Versatile Blogger award. That’s how good her blog is.
The Dawn Chorus is a platform for Australian feminists to analyze and comment on contemporary issues that matter to them.
State of Green showcases modern sustainable design in Australia.
Scott Westerfield is an American writer who lives part-time in Syndey. I’ve never read any of his novels, but his blog is awesome. If you like steampunk, you have to check it out.
Lady Melbourne is a fashion and style blog from Phoebe Montague who lives in, you guessed it, Melbourne. If all Melburnians are this chic, I’m in trouble.
xssat is a really cool blog featuring Sydney street fashion from Vogue.com.au contributing photographer Xiaohan Shen.
Smaggle is an awesome lifestyle blog from Carly Jacobs, whose hair I really like.
Melbourne-based Bronny blogs about punk rock, feminism, fashion, and random cool stuff at Fat Aus.
Things Aussies Like, from an American in Sydney, is amusing and educational.
Sophie Isobel, in Mildura, is a woman after my own heart. She’s a teacher of English and literature by day with dreams of Paris, joining the circus, and running away in a gypsy caravan. Sophie blogs about thrift store and flea market finds, books, tea, and lot of other beautiful things at Her Library Adventures.
Do you have any suggestions for Aussie blogs I ought to be reading?
